    Exercise Physiologist

     

    Join the hospital trusted by Chicago’s Southland, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, in this role as an Exercise Physiologist.

     

    Under the general direction and supervision of the center director, and in collaboration with program medical director and other team members:  provides care to Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation clients and Adult Fitness clientele, including assessment, plans of care, education, evaluation, etc.  Contributes to an environment which enables Ingalls to fulfill its mission and meet or exceed its goals.  Functions as a cooperative and active member of the health care team.

     

    • In collaboration with physician, assesses clients and makes adjustments in treatment on an initial and ongoing basis, including, but not limited to: medical history, identification of risk factors, review of pertinent data, and assessment of progress through stages, observation, and appropriate documentation.
    • In collaboration with client, physician, and family members establishes appropriate plan of care for clients, including but not limited to: goal establishment, risk factor modification planning, exercise prescriptions, etc.
    • Maintains the standard for productivity within the department
    • Adheres to all departmental and hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care. Assists director with review of policy and procedure and departmental forms and makes recommendations. 
    • Completes all required patient care documentation and reports accurately and in a timely manner all relevant issues or changes in patient condition to physician and other members of health care team. Accurately completes all patient charges in a timely manner the same day patient treatment is given.
    • Communicates with hospital and ancillary personnel, physicians, and other health care providers, to assure quality and continuity of care.
    • Assesses patient’s needs for additional care and assists in coordinating services. 
    • Routinely communicates with director and reports appropriate information in a concise and timely manner. Implements appropriate activity and exercise protocol for clients, including, but not limited to: advancing client through protocol, client education, exercise/equipment demonstration, and supervision etc.
    • Operates ambulatory monitoring equipment (i.e., telemetry, oximetry) for patient treatments.
    • Educates clients in various settings, using various media, concerning rehabilitation and exercise.
    • Education may also include:  rehabilitation principles and protocol, plan design, goals, risk factor and lifestyle modification, etc
    • Evaluates effectiveness of rehabilitation and educational activities through various means, reports results and makes adjustments as necessary.

     

    Education/Experience: 

     

    Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology or equivalent.

    Masters degree in Exercise Physiology is preferred.                                                      

    ACSM certification preferred.

    ACLS is required

     

    Experience:  Minimum of 1-2 years full time experience in the exercise physiology role.  Must possess excellent organization and communication skills. Must be flexible.

     

     

    The physical demand is moderate in nature with a degree of walking, standing, moving, and lifting up to 20 pounds. A high degree of hearing accuracy required to distinguish difference in lung sounds, high degree of visual acuity, accurate color vision to perceive changes in patient’s skin color. Must be able to life up to and in excess of 20 pounds.  Moderate amount of office work for documentation and computer data entry.
