    Medical Records Clerk- Full Time, Days


    Join the hospital trusted by Chicago’s Southland, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, in this role as a Medical Records Clerk.

    The Health Information Management Clerk performs various high level clerical functions pertaining to medical records.  The incumbent must demonstrate professional standards and adhere to hospital policies and procedures. The position requires knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements, as they relate to Health Information Regulatory guidelines.



    Required Skills:

    • Prepare and scan the medical records and supporting documents

      Retrieve the records from the units upon patient discharge

    • Respond to all medical record requests from internal departments, physicians and physician office staff.

      Assist with medical record audits with supervision

    • Process and completes Newborn birth certificates in accordance to State Regulation

      Assure the accuracy of Death certificates, including Fetal Death Certificates

    • Assist physicians with record completion activities and provides updates in EHIM system regarding physician deficiencies

      Assure the correct processing and placement of records while performing analysis of the medical record

      Identify deficiencies and ensures the completeness of the medical record

      Provide follow-up with physicians regarding deficient records via phone call, e-mail, fax, etc.

    • Performs other duties assigned.




    • High school graduate or equivalent, preferably supplemented by courses in healthcare.
