    Endoscopy Technician

    Join the hospital trusted by Chicago’s Southland, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, in this role as a Endoscopy technician.


    Under the supervision of the Supervisor and Director, Surgical Services and direction of the registered nurse, participates in the intraoperative care of a patient in Surgery. Knows, follows and actively supports the philosophy, mission and Vision of Ingalls Hospital. Observes and adheres to all corporate compliance requirements and communicates issues as they arise to the appropriate parties as identified in the Corporate Compliance Plan.

    • Anticipate the needs of endoscopists, passing instruments and providing sterile items in an efficient manner
    • ST performs as assistant by holding instruments as directed by the physician
    • ST is responsible for checking, mixing and disposing of appropriate items and fluids for procedure.
    • The ST prepares the procedure room while checking non-sterile equipment to ensure that it is in proper working order.
    • ST have participated to positioning of patients for procedure.
    • ST prepares specimens, by verifying labels and placing in appropriate container.
    • Post-op responsibilities include cleaning of the procedure room removal of all contaminated instruments, linen and garbage. Disposal of all blood and body fluids utilizing the Brohaland process.
    • Adherence to Infection Control Principle.
    • Participates in the Time Out Universal Protocol
    • Observes during procedure and reports pertinent information to circulating nurse.
    • Demonstrates the ability to adapt to various surgical procedures.
    • Utilizes the doctors’ preferences in the preparation of an assigned procedure.
    • Plans and organizes assigned surgical cases needs prior to case start.
    • Provides equipment and supplies based on patient/procedure needs.
    • Empty and decontaminate suction units and return to rooms as needed.



    • High School Diploma Required
    • Completion of Surgical Technologist Program
    • Certification as a CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
    • Prefer a minimum of 1 year experience as a Endoscopy technician/CST in an acute care hospital
    • The physical demand ranges from constant sedentary work with a certain amount of sitting, walking and standing to occasional light work involving lifting up to and in excess of 20 pounds of force and/or excess of 100 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Office work requiring excessive computer usage of data entry and interdepartmental communication.
