Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, as a Grants Manager in the Foundation Development department.   


In this role as a Grants Manager, you will promote efforts to build a culture of philanthropy within UCM Ingalls by raising $500,000 - $1M annually to advance the fundraising priorities as established by the Leadership Team of Ingalls Development Foundation (IDF) and President of UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital.


Job Summary 

The Grants Manager is responsible for sustaining and building relationships with and support from private foundations.  They will manage a portfolio of 50+ prospects, which are independent philanthropic foundations or corporate foundations. 


Designs and implements fundraising initiatives including identification, qualification, cultivation and solicitation strategies for foundations with a capacity to makes gifts in the $50K to $500K range. 


The Grants Manager collaborates with UCM Ingalls leaders and administrators, IDF and hospital board members and colleagues.


Collaborates with Development Manager to individualize donor stewardship and in many cases independently designs and implements stewardship. 


Essential Job Functions

  • Manage a portfolio of 50+ foundations which are capable of making gifts in the $10k - $500k range. 
  • For this portfolio they employ a Moves Management methodology and is responsible for all fundraising activities including identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Prospect Identification and Qualification. Works with IDF Leadership team, UCM Ingalls leaders and administrators, IDF and hospital board members and colleagues to identify and qualify foundation prospects.  In addition, participates in outreach events to meet, identify, and qualify prospective foundation donors.
  •  Grants Manager is expected to develop and maintain relationships with donors, staff, board members including clinical leaders who have the ability to deepen the prospective donors’ engagement with the hospital. 
  • Writes briefings to prepare participants for cultivation visits. 
  • Writes timely and strategic correspondence that advances relationships and keeps prospects involved and informed. 
  • Coordinate’s outreach, donor recognition and event participation to ensure all opportunities to cultivate prospect donors are maximized.
  • Conceives and implements solicitation strategies including writing presentations and proposals that secure gifts.
  • Implements stewardship in accordance with IDF policies and procedures.  Independently prepares stewardship reports. 
  • Participates in office-wide endeavors such as Events, Staff meetings, retreats and ad hoc working groups and other similar activities.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 1 - 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience and success securing gifts.
  •  Experience with basic fundraising research techniques and resources.


Preferred Qualifications 

  • Knofledge of Microsoft word, excel & powerpoint

  • Knowledge of Fundraising best practices

  • Knowledge of Blackbaud donor database
