Job Description

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine (UCMC), as our next Chief Nursing Informatics Officer (CNIO) and Executive Director responsible for leading the nursing informatics program. 

 

We are seeking a driven leader as our next Chief Nursing Informatics Officer and Executive Director to be an innovative technology partner providing expertise and decision making for all nursing informatics aspects across the UChicago Medicine enterprise. The position has a dual-reporting relationship to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) & the Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer (CIO). The CNIO will work collaboratively with the Executive Director – Clinical Applications and the Chief Medical Information Officers (CMIOs) to help establish the strategy and implementation of nursing informatics to support the clinical enterprise.

 

With a strong focus on both the patient and provider experience, the CNIO will help lead the expansion and optimization of nursing informatics to improve processes, efficiency, quality and safety. The CNIO will help establish enterprise nursing informatics, collaborate across the clinical enterprise, including our nurse teaching and training programs, as well as research within UCMC. The CNIO will play a critical role in leading nursing informatics within the Epic Electronic Health Record.

 

Who you are: 

A visionary, ethical, transformational Nursing and IT leader with a passion for applying innovative technologies and who possesses the following:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing Informatics or related Nursing/ Healthcare field.
  • Experience from an academic medical center environment with a minimum of 5 years progressive leadership and oversight of clinical informatics & nursing infrastructure.
  • Significant Epic experience with a notable record of accomplishments from an Epic environment.
  • Current RN license, or eligible for licensure in the state of Illinois.
  • Post Graduate Informatics certification strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of processes such as software development lifecycle, Agile, Lean and Six Sigma highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated superior listening, written and verbal communication skills, with a strong executive presence.
  • Able to serve as an “innovation evangelist” and “change agent” by speaking to users in terms they can understand, digest, and to which they can adequately respond.
  • Solid reputation as an individual who can provide sound leadership and build effective teams to maximize organizational success.

What you’ll do as the Chief Nursing Informatics Officer and Executive Director 

  • Serve as the strategic liaison within Information Technology (IT) representing the nursing community and patient care team needs.
  • Create a communications strategy and cross-organizational vision for nursing and clinical informatics in concert with the overall nursing communication strategy.
  • Understand the impact of regulatory changes with the ability to interpret and evangelize informatics impact for internal and external constituents.
  • Develop nursing and clinical informatics strategies related to technology procurement, implementation, maintenance and optimization.
  • Combine knowledge of patient care, informatics concepts and change management to effectively address the information and knowledge needs of healthcare professionals and patients to promote safe, effective and efficient use of IT in clinical settings.
  • Develop clinical informatics nursing system strategies in collaboration with other senior nursing/clinical, medical informatics and operational leaders to support quality patient care and professional practice.
  • Design, develop and implement appropriate service delivery in collaboration with nursing and technology leadership in defining, delivering and improving services for the enterprise and its customers.
  • Incorporate nursing research and evidence-based nursing knowledge into nursing informatics practice.
  • Collaborate with nurse leaders in planning and implementing program expansion and growth, including new business ventures, construction, and projects.
  • Promote advancement of clinical and business intelligence systems capable of reporting variables to evaluate patient outcomes and to support research and operational improvement across the continuum of care.
  • Participate in development of operating and capital budgets for nursing technology, making recommendations regarding software, training, and equipment costs, as well as ongoing utilization and maintenance.
  • Apply strong interpersonal communication skills to maintain open channels of discussion and partnership among staff members, other health care professionals and hospital departments.
