Job Description

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital as a Operating Room Scheduler in the Surgery department. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

 

Under the supervision of the Manager and/or Charge Nurse, the Operating Room Scheduler is responsible for the daily duties inherent in the scheduling of surgical bookings from the surgeon’s offices.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • To support the vision of Ingalls Memorial Hospital and to provide a care service which facilitates cost effective operations
  • Obtain/collect patient’s pertinent socioeconomic information
  • Enter appropriate data accurately into the scheduling software
  • Work closely with department personnel such as: Cardiology, MRI, CT, Laboratory and Radiology, etc.
  • Generates real time OR schedule and billing
  • Efficient use of office equipment including computer, fax, and printer
  • Produces monthly OR utilization reports as needed
  • Participates in the orientation of new personnel
  • Assists with special projects and/or committees as needed
  • Updates surgeon preference cards
  • Daily OR, ENDO, and Anesthesia billing
  • Maintain the work areas in an organized and orderly condition, restock office supplies
  • Handles incoming telephones inquiries from physicians, RNs, and patients.
  • Requires the ability to handle a variety of tasks with speed, and attention to detail and accuracy
  • Perform other job duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Knowledge of Operating Room scheduling procedures
  • Experience in basic computer software programs
  • Demonstrates ability to develop others in areas of continuous process improvement, and customer service, delivery and self-directed teamwork

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Possess knowledge of basic computer software programs
  • Typing requirement (minimum 25-30 wpm)
  • Requires good analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Requires maturity and ability to appropriately represent the department to other internal and external customers
  • Previous experience in a health care environment such as Central Scheduling/Call Center, Physician’s office and/or other related health care experience is desired
